A Parent Aide is someone who works directly with families to help them build the skills and confidence they need to create a safe, healthy home for their children. The goal is to strengthen families so children can remain safely with their parents and avoid involvement with the child welfare system.

Parent Aides meet regularly with caregivers in their homes or community. They provide hands-on support, guidance, and encouragement while teaching practical parenting skills. This can include things like understanding child development, using positive discipline, creating routines, managing stress, and improving communication within the family.

They also help families connect with community resources such as childcare, food assistance, healthcare, housing support, or counseling when needed. Parent Aides work alongside families rather than judging them, focusing on building trust and helping parents recognize their strengths.

The program is voluntary and designed to empower parents by building protective factors—skills and supports that help families handle challenges and prevent child abuse or neglect. Over time, families gain confidence, stronger relationships with their children, and the tools they need to provide a stable and nurturing home.

In simple terms, a Parent Aide is a supportive coach for families, helping parents learn new skills, solve problems, and create a safe and positive environment where children can grow and thrive.
