The good neighbors at Lift Orlando believe a community’s greatest asset is its people, and that where we live shapes our life outcomes. While no single organization can solve all challenges, Lift Orlando is making strides through positive neighborhood revitalization in Orlando’s West Lakes area. This place-based community development nonprofit works with residents, business leaders, and community partners to address the individual needs and physical environments impacting where families live, learn, work, and grow. They help strengthen neighborhoods through mixed-income housing, cradle-to-career education pathways, health and wellness services, and economic viability opportunities. This past weekend, our Florida Blue centers across the state invited members and the public to participate in “Ready, Set, Bloom.” The half-day spring event featured an array of free activities at each of our centers, ranging from flower arranging and food preparation to health checks and interactive activities for adults, along with a variety of games for kids. #FloridaBlue #TBT

To help people live healthier lives, we must understand how health care challenges disproportionately impact certain racial and ethnic communities. The diabetes epidemic is no different. Minority populations are often diagnosed later, are less likely to have access to care, and are more likely to face complications from diabetes. In 2023, Florida Blue improved access to diabetes testing and screening for members leading to a 2.12% reduction in disparate health outcomes. We saw results in controlling blood glucose, reducing risks for complications, and improving health outcomes for these populations. Florida Blue’s sister company, Triple-S, enrolled members in a pre-diabetes program, which led to 60% of the participants reducing their risk of diabetes. This is the power of care. All moms deserve the best care at every stage of pregnancy, but Black women are two to three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women — regardless of income or education level. In partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, we're committed to reducing disparities in maternal health by 50% in five years by working with doctors, hospitals, policy makers and the nonprofit and private sectors to change health outcomes for Black and minority mothers. #BMHW24 #BlackMaternalHealthWeek

Food Rx is breaking barriers! This free program, led by Feeding Tampa Bay, was the first food pharmacy in the state, fulfilling food prescriptions for adults with diet-related chronic health conditions or diseases. In collaboration with medical providers, local hospitals, and clinics in the Tampa area, eligible patients receive a food prescription to visit a Food Rx pharmacy where they can pick up nutrient-rich, whole foods specifically aimed to address their diagnosis and focus on their long-term well-being.
