Feeding Northeast Florida and Renewing Dignity Host Period Poverty Awareness Week Distribution Event

WHAT:

Feeding Northeast Florida (FNEFL) will host a food and period products distribution event, in partnership with Renewing Dignity, on Wednesday, May 17 in advance of Period Poverty Awareness Week (May 22-28). The distribution will take place at the standing Chet’s Creek Church food distribution, located at 6625 Terry Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32216.

More than 240,000 individuals suffer from some level of food insecurity across the food bank’s service area –– that equates to one in seven adults and one in five children. One in five women who report having a low household income also report lack of access to other basic needs, including period supplies. Period Poverty Awareness Week draws attention to this issue and the negative impact it has on people who menstruate.

The local nonprofit organizations have worked together for more than four years to meet both needs, distributing more than 3.4 million tampons and pads in our local community and throughout the eight counties the food bank serves.

The event will include an appearance by The ROAR of the Jaguars.
