UPCOMING EXPEDITION TO ANTARCTICA
26-year-old Jacksonville filmmaker and University of North Florida alum Lee Giat, has been invited to document the groundbreaking Space2Sea “Voyage of Legends” expedition to Antarctica. Organized by Future of Space, the journey brings together an extraordinary roster of explorers, scientists, and space pioneers, including Star Trek icon William Shatner, renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, Apollo astronaut Charlie Duke, and former NASA astronaut Scott Kelly.
Departing on December 19, 2024, this landmark expedition aims to highlight the vital connection between Earth's oceans and the cosmos. Using Antarctica as a backdrop, the mission will foster dialogue on exploration, environmental stewardship, and global challenges. The elite crew will engage in discussions, explorations, and events designed to inspire a deeper understanding of the intersection between Antarctic and space research.
ABOUT THE FILMMAKER
Lee Giat is making a name for himself in the fields of aerospace and science media. Founder of Flying Ostrich Media, Giat recently premiered his directorial debut film, Wright of Passage, at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, a documentary celebrating the spirit of aviation and innovation. His adventurous resume includes flying in zero gravity and completing astronaut training in Russia for FOX's Xploration Outer Space.
Giat’s humanitarian project, PASSAGE, further exemplifies his dedication to exploration and impactful storytelling. In 2023, he completed a 48-day solo flight across the Caribbean and South America to deliver educational resources to underserved communities.
“It is an absolute privilege and a huge responsibility,” said Giat. “Documenting such an epic convergence of people and purpose is a dream for any creative artist. The Antarctic landscape offers no shortage of stunning footage, but this is the first time we are witnessing so many aerospace legends embarking on something new together. That is a truly special opportunity, but a massive undertaking as well.”
