Jacksonville Symphony Hires New Principal Bassoon |

What: After an intense audition process, the Jacksonville Symphony has hired Jordan Brokken as Principal Bassoon to join the orchestra in January 2025. Brokken has a robust resume, directly coming from the Charleston Symphony as their Principal Bassoon, holding the same role in the Central City Opera in Colorado over the summer and has been a guest in the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Atlanta Symphony. He has also studied with virtuosos Richard Beene and Whitney Crockett. When: Jordan Brokken will begin January 1, 2025 as the Jacksonville Symphony’s Principal Bassoon. Bio: Brokken is joining the Jacksonville Symphony as Principal Bassoon in January 2025. During the summer, he is the Principal Bassoon of the Central City Opera in Colorado and has attended the Tanglewood and Aspen Music festivals. Prior to his time in Jacksonville, he served in this role with the Charleston Symphony. He has performed as Guest Principal Bassoon with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Atlanta Symphony. A native of Houston Texas, Brokken received his Undergraduate and Graduate degrees from the Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles where he studied with Richard Beene. His other major teacher was Whitney Crockett. During the pandemic, Brokken was a founding member of the Monarch Chamber Players in Houston, Texas. This group produced and performed over 150 outdoor, socially distanced concerts while he was a member. The Symphony looks forward to celebrating this monumental anniversary season with its new addition and longstanding musicians.
