Freedom Boat Club of Northeast Florida Co-Owner Joins Shake-A-Leg Miami Board of Directors

Kevin Seelig has joined the board of the nonprofit, which served as a catalyst for his career in the marine industry

Jacksonville, Fla., Dec. 9, 2024 – Freedom Boat Club of Northeast Florida’s Co-Owner Kevin Seelig has joined the board of directors of Shake-A-Leg Miami, a nonprofit organization based in South Florida that first introduced Seelig to boating. Seelig was nominated to the board by Shake-A-Leg’s Co-Founder and President, Harry Horgan. Horgan established the nonprofit in 1990 to help improve the health, education, and independence of children and adults with physical, developmental, or economic challenges by introducing them to the marine environment through sailing, boating, canoeing and other water sports.

“I am deeply honored to be nominated to serve on the board of directors for Shake-A-Leg Miami,” said Seelig. “This organization’s dedication to empowering individuals of all abilities through marine-based programs aligns closely with my passion for boating and community engagement. I look forward to contributing to their impactful mission and helping to expand opportunities for those they serve.”

Seelig first became involved with Shake-A-Leg when he was a child. He started as a camper in the nonprofit’s summer camp, then became a volunteer and ultimately an employee, where he worked until he was 18. Seelig said he learned valuable lessons and gained skills at the organization, which he still utilizes today. Seelig credits Shake-A-Leg with giving him a place to thrive and putting him on the path toward his career.

"Kevin’s journey with Shake-A-Leg Miami—from camper to staff member to Board of Directors—is a testament to his passion and dedication,” said Horgan. “His life experiences and leadership embody the heart of our mission to empower individuals of all abilities. We are honored to have him on our board, helping us create even greater opportunities for the community we serve."

Seelig started working with Freedom Boat Club as a dock manager while in college at the University of North Florida, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics. Following graduation, he became co-owner of Freedom Boat Club Northeast Florida, with four locations in Jacksonville and St. Augustine. Seelig is also a co-owner and managing member of Red Bird Boats with eleven franchises across Ohio, Kentucky and Pennsylvania, and is a partner and investor in Victory Marine, which operates fourteen locations in Washington state.

In addition to serving on the Shake-A-Leg board, Seelig and his Freedom Boat Club partner donated a 2021 Sweetwater 2286 22-foot Tritoon boat with a Mercury 150 motor to the nonprofit last year. They also arranged for Freedom Boat Club’s corporate owner, Brunswick, to get involved by donating supplies through two subsidiaries.
