Alberto J. “A.J.” Souto Promoted to JEA Treasurer

JEA has promoted Alberto J. “A.J.” Souto to serve as treasurer for the municipally-owned utility. He joined JEA more than two years ago and has served as manager of debt capital markets for the past year.

Souto will work to ensure the long-term financial viability of JEA through management of the company’s approximately $845 million cash and investment portfolio and $3.3 billion debt portfolio. He will be responsible for maximizing return to JEA while effectively mitigating the operating risk in these functional areas. 

Souto has served in various municipal finance roles in Duval County for more than 12 years. Before joining JEA, he served as assistant CFO/budget officer for the City of Jacksonville Beach and in various roles at the City of Jacksonville.

Souto holds the Certified Treasury Professional and Certified Government Finance Officer credentials. He earned a master’s degree in public administration and bachelor’s degree in political science, both from the University of North Florida. Souto assumed his new role on March 10.
