The Museum of Science & History Invites You to Celebrate the Legacy of Wonder and Its Bold Future Ahead

A Free Community Event Sponsored by VyStar Credit Union

Jacksonville, FL — The Museum of Science & History (MOSH) invites the Jacksonville community to celebrate more than eight decades of curiosity, connection, and discovery at Legacy of Wonder, a one-day event presented by VyStar Credit Union. Taking place on August 9th, from 10 AM- 4 PM, this special gathering marks a milestone moment for the Museum as it prepares to close its current location and embark on a bold new journey to build a world-class facility in the heart of Downtown Jacksonville.

Legacy of Wonder will be a vibrant celebration of the community that has shaped MOSH's mission since its founding in 1941. Guests will enjoy live music, hands-on activities, and an exclusive preview of the future Museum, which is slated to break ground in 2026 and open in 2028 along the Northbank of the St. Johns River. Through live performances and shows, exclusive activities, and a walk down memory lane, the event will highlight MOSH’s history as a beloved local institution and offer a glimpse into the next chapter of the organization’s mission and Downtown location.

“For over 84 years, The Museum of Science & History has been a place where curiosity and discovery spark lifelong learning and wonder,” said Dr. Alistair Dove, CEO of MOSH. “As we invite the community to help us celebrate the legacy of our current home, we are also looking ahead to a new era. We’re creating a whole new museum experience that will be inspiring, adventurous fun for the curious of all ages and a community cultural hub for the first coast region.”

The new Museum will nearly triple MOSH’s visitation capacity and create over seven acres of immersive, indoor-outdoor learning experiences. Blending science, history, and the natural environment, the future facility will redefine what a museum can be, offering spaces to learn, gather, and grow together. It will also serve as a central pillar in the revitalization of Jacksonville’s Northbank, alongside other major developments such as the Stadium of the Future, Four Seasons Hotel, and the Emerald Trail.

“As both a proud supporter of MOSH and a believer in the power of community-driven transformation, VyStar is honored to be the presenting sponsor of Legacy of Wonder,” said Brian Wolfburg, MOSH Board Member and President and CEO of VyStar Credit Union. “This event is a celebration of all that MOSH has meant to Jacksonville and a powerful look forward at what’s possible when we invest in education, culture, and connection. VyStar is a committed partner to the next chapter for a museum that has inspired generations.”

The Legacy of Wonder event also kicks off VyStar’s “Good is Everywhere” celebration, which will provide free experiences and community partnerships throughout the month of September. As the Museum prepares to close its doors at 1025 Museum Circle by September 1, 2025, it will continue serving the public through pop-up events, mobile educational programs, and collaborative activations across Northeast Florida. Legacy of Wonder offers the perfect opportunity for longtime supporters and first-time visitors alike to be part of this pivotal moment in MOSH’s story.
