The Jacksonville Music Experience Presents Jared Mattson Live at The Walrus

What:

WJCT Public Media’s Jacksonville Music Experience presents a night of live music with Jared Mattson for his Peanut release tour at The Walrus in Murray Hill. This is Jared’s first solo record; his previous work with his twin brother, Jonathan, for The Mattson 2 has received critical acclaim from outlets including PitchforkThe Washington Post and NPR. Their psychedelic sound carries into Peanut, an album released through Toro Y Moi’s Company Records.

JME is bringing larger acts from outside of Jacksonville to local venues to create a bridge between touring groups and Jacksonville’s blooming music community. Touring artists are able to get a taste of Duval’s culture, while local music fans are able to expand their listening horizons.

Peanut finds Jared traversing more dream pop than the surf-inflected hard bop that first garnered his Southern California duo a national audience. On songs like the meditative “Burn Down Babylon,” “Please Come Here” (which is sung in Japanese) and the Ween cover “She Wanted to Leave,” Mattson demonstrates the mastery and dexterity of his primary instrument (guitar) for which he’s long been known, a budding confidence in his vocal delivery and an imaginative approach to song structure.

Tickets can be purchased for $22 here or at the door.
