With storms on the horizon, Northeast Florida residents are called to give blood now to ensure hospitals stay prepared
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — September 25, 2025 — LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is urging the public to donate blood now to help safeguard the blood supply before disaster strikes during the 2025 Hurricane Season.
Natural disasters can disrupt donation efforts and increase the need for lifesaving blood. Every day, blood donors play a vital role in ensuring that hospitals are equipped to treat trauma victims, cancer patients and those with chronic illnesses. There is no substitute for human blood – it must come from generous, healthy donors. Right now, type O blood types are critically needed. Those who choose to donate now help ensure blood is on the shelves when it's needed most.
During the month of September, all blood donors will receive a LifeSouth t-shirt. Platelet and double red cell donors will also receive a $40 e-gift card.
Additionally, LifeSouth supplies blood to 70% of Northeast Florida hospital beds through its service to many regional hospitals, including Baptist Medical Center Beaches, Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, Baptist Medical Center Nassau, Baptist Medical Center South, HCA Florida Memorial Hospital, HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital, UF Health Jacksonville, UF Health North and Wolfson Children’s Hospital. Blood donated with LifeSouth directly helps patients at these hospitals.
For additional information about donation or to find a blood drive near you, call LifeSouth toll-free at 888-795-2707, visit www.lifesouth.org or download the LifeSouth app. Appointments can also be made online.
