The new restaurant, located in the historic Oxford & Corinthian building, will be anchored in community and southern flavor
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – October 20, 2025 – Oxford Place will open this winter in Ortega’s historic Oxford & Corinthian building located at 2902 Corinthian Avenue. The new restaurant will bring a fresh take on neighborhood dining, blending approachable elegance with seasonally driven, southern flare.
Oxford Place is designed as a refined yet relaxed space that fits naturally into the fabric of the Ortega, Avondale and Riverside communities. The restaurant aims to be a go-to gathering spot for both casual cuisine and special occasions any night of the week.
The culinary vision at Oxford Place is rooted in Southern-influence, with a focus on quality ingredients, recognizable favorites and thoughtful preparation. The seasonally changing menu will have highlights including New Orleans-style BBQ shrimp, signature grit soufflé with bacon beurre blanc and blackened redfish served with Hoppin’ John. Guests can expect a variety of composed entrée salads, a signature burger and familiar entrées like steak, chicken and seafood – designed to be both satisfying and approachable. A kid’s menu will also be available, ensuring Oxford Place offers something for every member of the family.
Additionally, Oxford Place will feature dinner service upon opening, with brunch offerings expected to follow. The menu will emphasize fresh, regionally-sourced ingredients and southern flavors, with signature cocktails and curated wines rounding out the drink menu and happy hour offerings available.
Nestled in the heart of “Old” Ortega, Oxford Place will bring new energy to a beloved neighborhood landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1988. Originally designed in 1923 by the Jacksonville architecture firm Marsh and Saxelby, the building’s timeless character – defined by tall windows, high ceilings, and thoughtful craftsmanship – remains central to its charm today. In preparation for Oxford Place’s opening, Adler Interior Design has led a sensitive restoration effort to restore the old beauty of the building while maintaining the integrity of its original design, blending historic preservation with modern comfort to create a warm, welcoming space for the community once again.
Owned and operated by the Jacksonville restaurateurs behind Bold Birds Nashville Hot Chicken in Murray Hill, Oxford Place is led by Hughes Brown and Jerry Brown. The Ortega residents previously co-owned a fine-dining restaurant called Watermark in Nashville for 15 years. Now, the father-and-son duo are renovating the former Simply Sara’s and Fonda’s Hairstyling spaces into a new 2,900 square-footage restaurant with 120 seats, combined indoors and outdoors, and a full-service bar.
“This building has represented connection and community to this area for generations, and we want to honor that,” said Jerry Brown, co-owner of Oxford Place. “We’re not just opening a restaurant – we’re bringing new life to a building with deep roots. Our goal is to create a warm, inviting place where guests can gather often, and we look forward to having Oxford Place fill that with approachable, everyday hospitality where neighbors and new friends can unwind over great food.”
Additional details, including the official opening date, hours of operation and menu previews, will be shared in the coming months.
