Holiday Happenings at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens Offer Artful Fun for the Whole Family

First Coast families are invited to explore a range of offerings this December

 

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – This holiday season, the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens invites families to make new memories together through festive programs designed to spark connection, creativity, and fun. Holiday Happenings at the Cummer Museum offer joyful experiences for visitors of all ages.

 

“At the Cummer, the holidays are about slowing down, celebrating togetherness, and discovering the magic of creativity,” said Kim Kuta Dring, Director of Learning and Engagement. “Whether you’re gathering for story time, creating seasonal artworks, or strolling in our beautiful outdoor spaces, there’s something for every member of the family to enjoy.”

 

Self-Care Sunday: Tai Chi & Sound Bath
The Cummer Museum invites guests to step away from the holiday rush and restore their sense of calm with a gentle movement and sound experience. After class, participants are encouraged to linger in the galleries and on the grounds, turning a busy-season Sunday into a nourishing pause for relaxation and well-being. This class includes admission to the Museum.

Sunday, December 14, 10 a.m. – noon (two classes)

Members $20, Future Members $35

 

Creative Kids Drop-In: After-School Holiday Art Adventure

On December 16, Creative Kids Drop-In turns an ordinary weekday into an artful after-school escape, giving children a chance to explore the galleries and gardens before heading to the studio to create their own seasonal masterpieces, inspired by works in the Museum’s collection.

Tuesday, December 16, 4 to 5 p.m.

Members $10 per child, Future Members $15 per child

 

Family Literacy Night at the Cummer Museum

On Tuesday evening, December 16, families can enjoy a free evening of reading and fun in collaboration with the Jacksonville Public Library, Mayor Donna Deegan, READ USA, and the River City Readers Bookmobile. Families can pick out free books, enjoy giveaways, sign up for library cards, and learn literacy tips.

Luminaria at the Cummer Museum

As candlelit streets glow throughout the neighborhood, the Museum’s front lawn will fill with live music, warm drinks and seasonal bites from the Cummer Café, a festive art-making activity for all ages, and last-minute gifts in the Cummer Shop.

Vacation Week Workshop: Snowy Scenes Painting for Kids

During winter break, this workshop offers a creative outlet for young artists, aged 7-12, eager to explore winter-themed artmaking. Guided by teaching artists, children will explore painting techniques, learn how artists capture atmosphere and mood, and create their own snowy scenes to take home as a keepsake of their holiday visit.

Tuesday, December 23, 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Members $35 per child, Future Members $50 per child

 

Planning a Holiday Visit

In addition to these special programs, guests can enjoy the Museum’s galleries, interactive family spaces, and historic gardens overlooking the St. Johns River, making the Cummer Museum an ideal destination for out-of-town visitors and local families alike during the holiday season. The Museum offers extended hours on Tuesdays, and free admission on the third Tuesday of each month.
