Jacksonville, Fla. (October 8, 2026) — The Jacksonville Symphony presents Bernstein & Stravinsky on October 16 and 17, 2026, in Jacoby Symphony Hall, featuring Stravinsky's “The Firebird Suite,” Bernstein's “Chichester Psalms” and "Three Dance Variations,” and Borodin’s “Polovetsian Dances” under the baton of guest conductor Christopher Warren-Green. This program has something for everyone. Stravinsky’s “The Firebird Suite” brings a Russian fairy tale to life, while Borodin’s “Polovetsian Dances” ignites fiery rhythms and sweeping melodies. Bernstein’s contributions range from the Jacksonville Symphony Chorus performing “Chichester Psalms” in Hebrew to the jazzy, Broadway-inspired “Three Dance Variations.” The concert also marks the first performance of the 2026/27 Season featuring the Chorus under the direction of its new director, Tony Thornton. Warren-Green is principal conductor and music director of the London Chamber Orchestra and conductor laureate of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, where he served as music director for 12 years. He has conducted regularly for the British royal family, including at the weddings of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. He also led concerts for Queen Elizabeth II's 80th and 90th birthdays and King Charles' 60th birthday. "[Warren-Green is] a brilliant musician, and I can't wait to hear what he draws out of our orchestra," said Music Director Courtney Lewis. Tickets are available at JaxSymphony.org or by calling the Box Office at 904-354-5547. This concert is sponsored by Florida Blue and is part of the Greta Challen Berg Artist Series. The Jacksonville Symphony is North Florida’s leading nonprofit performing arts organization offering live performances at Jacoby Symphony Hall in the Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts and other venues throughout the area. Led by President and CEO Steven Libman and Music Director Courtney Lewis, the Jacksonville Symphony reaches over 165,000 individuals through over 95 performances each season. In addition, the Symphony provides music instruction for youth and operates the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestras. For more information about the Symphony, visit JaxSymphony.org.
