Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida Announces Opposition to Amendment 3 and Launches Campaign Highlighting Risks it Presents to Local Citizens

Organization warns Northeast Florida residents will lose access to vital services provided by nonprofits due to significant anticipated reduction in local revenue

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —October 8, 2026 — The Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida, a collective of over 350 member organizations, today announced the launch of a public awareness campaign urging voters to reject Amendment 3 and protect Northeast Florida residents’ access to local resources that support essential community services.

If approved, Amendment 3 could significantly reduce revenue available for local decision makers to maintain programs and services that keep families stable, support working households and provide a safety net for the region’s most vulnerable residents.

The Nonprofit Center’s campaign provides localized insight on the potential impact on community services that residents rely on every day. The organization encourages residents to learn more about what is at stake and consider the immediate consequences a significant reduction in local revenue could have for families throughout the region.

As Floridians face sustained pressure from rising costs for housing, food and other basic needs, reducing the resources available for community services could weaken the very systems families turn to when they find themselves most in need of support.

"People who rely on community services when a household budget simply cannot stretch any further deserve to have their needs considered in this issue," said Callan Brown, CEO of the Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida. "If we reduce the resources available for those services at the same time families are struggling, we risk leaving people with fewer places to turn to precisely when they need help most."

The potential impact is already affecting resources available to residents from the nonprofit sector. Local decision makers across Northeast Florida have signaled that reduced revenue could require significant and immediate cuts to community services and other local priorities. The Nonprofit Center joins many Northeast Florida organizations that have publicly voiced opposition to Amendment 3, including the JAX Chamber, the Jacksonville Civic Council, The Jacksonville Association of Fire Fighters and the Jacksonville Fraternal Order of Police.

The impact of those decisions extends beyond any single organization or program. Across the region, individuals trust nonprofits for help with housing assistance, childcare support, food programs, senior services and other resources that proactively address challenges. When those supports are reduced or eliminated, families’ needs do not disappear — and problems that could have been addressed early can become more difficult and costly for families and communities.

“Nonprofits are part of the infrastructure that keeps Northeast Florida strong,” Brown said. “They help families remain stable, keep people connected to essential resources and often step in before a difficult situation becomes a crisis. Protecting those services is ultimately about protecting the health and stability of our entire community.”
