JACKSONVILLE, Fla, August 22, 2023 - Hearts 4 Minds, a Jacksonville nonprofit dedicated to breaking the stigma of mental health and facilitating early identification and treatment of mental illness through tools, resources and education, is unveiling a new mural as part of its Murals with Meaning program in Jacksonville on August 25. The mural is located on the wall of Kava & Company (San Marco) at 1224 Kings Ave.
Hearts 4 Minds’ Murals with Meaning initiative promotes mental health awareness and shares valuable resources to those struggling with mental illness, all while enhancing the Jacksonville community. Each mural showcases the dragonfly symbol of courage, strength and change, and includes a QR code visitors can scan that connects them to available mental health resources.
A collaboration between Hearts 4 Minds, Kava & Company and artists from Heartspace Art, the new mural’s design incorporates both the kava plant and the dragonfly, the Hearts 4 Minds symbol of courage, strength and change.
“We love the partnership with Kava. The atmosphere is laid back and welcoming,” said Sheryl Johnson, founder of Hearts 4 Minds. “Creating welcoming environments where people can experience positivity is a great match for the Hearts 4 Minds mission to give hope and help people lead healthy lives.”
The free, family-friendly mural reveal and vendor market takes place at Kava & Company, San Marco at 1224 Kings Ave on Friday, August 25 from 8 p.m. - 12 a.m., with the ribbon cutting ceremony taking place at 9 p.m. Visitors can enjoy live music and food from Buss Down Fries, with art vendors selling pieces on site.
“This mural is an incredible blend of the Kava & Company vibe and Hearts 4 Minds mission,” said Johnson. “It represents both of us and honors my son, Alex, who inspired us all.”
