CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR THE THIRD SEASON OF UNTOLD STORIES - FLORIDA THEATRE’S ORAL STORYTELLING SERIES

JACKSONVILLE, FL, September 7, 2023 – Are you harboring an intriguing tale within you, waiting to be shared with the world?  Untold Stories, the renowned oral storytelling series at the Florida Theatre, is gearing up for its highly anticipated third season.  If you possess a captivating, original story that you’re itching to perform in front of a live audience, we’re eager to hear from you.  We’re searching for authentic, original stories that span the spectrum from uproariously funny to profoundly dramatic, all rooted in the rich tapestry of Jacksonville.

 

Your stories should weave connections to this vibrant city – its people, landscapes, and history.  Submission details are below.  We can’t wait to hear your story.

 

What:  Untold Stories, Florida Theatre’s oral storytelling series, is back for its third season!

 

Where:  Historic Florida Theatre in Downtown Jacksonville, FL.

 

How:  Share your unique original story (10 to 12 minutes in length) with a live audience.

 

Submission:  Submit a video (maximum two minutes) explaining your story’s essence, its connection to Jacksonville, and your passion for sharing it.  Begin by stating your name (spelled out), and provide your phone number.  Email your video to shelissa@floridatheatre.com

 

Confirmation:  You’ll receive a receipt acknowledgment. 

 

Performance Dates & Themes: 

  • Thursday, November 9, 2023 – Fall Theme
  • Thursday, February 15, 2024 – Winter Theme
  • Thursday, May 30, 2024 – Spring Theme
  • Thursday, July 11, 2024 – Summer Theme

 

Requirements: 

  • The story connects to Jacksonville's people, place, and history. 
  • Experience with sharing stories in front of an audience. 
  • Willingness to develop a story with a narrative coach.

 

Coaching: 

  • Available for four to six in-person or Zoom coaching sessions. 
  • A cast storytelling workshop. 
  • Dress rehearsal week of the show.

Note:  Written descriptions, lengthy stories, and scripts won’t be accepted at this time.  Please keep your video under two minutes.

About Untold Stories

Honoring the tradition of oral storytelling in a modern context, Untold Stories showcases six local storytellers in quarterly thematic story evenings featuring personal and transformative tales deeply wedded to the place we inhabit told by a diverse range of voices, both natives and residents of Northeast Florida.  Untold Stories is a project of the nonprofit Florida Theatre.  The third season of Untold Stories is curated by Artistic Director Barbara Colaciello of BABS’LAB. 

 

About the Florida Theatre
