Ability Housing Appoints Maureen Natkin as Development & Engagement Director

Natkin brings over 13 years of nonprofit leadership experience to the role

Nov. 2, 2023 — Jacksonville, Fla. — Ability Housing, a nonprofit developer of affordable multifamily housing, today announced the appointment of Maureen Natkin as the organization’s Development & Engagement Director, effective September 5, 2023. She brings more than 13 years of nonprofit leadership experience to the position.

Natkin is responsible for driving the organization’s fund development and communications strategy and activities. Her priorities include identifying appropriate revenue strategies, and securing resources through private donations, philanthropic grants and other charitable revenue sources to sustain and grow the organization’s capacity for service. Additionally, she guides outreach to internal and external stakeholders to share Ability Housing’s mission and impact.

In the year prior to her current role, Natkin served as the COO and Philanthropic Director of the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville, where her contributions helped the organization exceed its fundraising goals through tailored engagement with individual donors and corporate entities. She also implemented new policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency, worked closely with the board’s finance and membership committees and collaborated with staff on several initiatives, including internal and external communications, grant writing, education programming and event planning.

“One of the goals outlined in our new strategic plan is to elevate Ability Housing’s workforce and operational capacity for optimal performance. Maureen’s contribution to our future success is an important demonstration of our commitment to that goal,” said Shannon Nazworth, President and CEO of Ability Housing. “Her expertise in fund development, project management and problem solving is a welcome addition to our capabilities. I’m confident that she will deliver innovative solutions for the important challenges we address every day.”

Natkin previously worked in the affordable housing sector in Yonkers, New York, where she served as the Vice President of Development for Westhab, Inc. She raised nearly $5 million for the nonprofit organization’s Dayspring capital campaign, which ended in 2021. Earlier in her career, Natkin also served as the development associate and administrative assistant for Westchester Children’s Association. Her professional experience also includes startup operations for an internet service provider and time abroad in Moscow, Russia as a project manager for the International Finance Corporation and service as a legislative correspondent in Washington, D.C. She has her M.A. in International Economics and Russian Studies from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and a B.A. in Russian Area Studies from Dartmouth College.

“I enjoyed my time working in the affordable housing sector while I was in New York and look forward to contributing to Ability Housing’s growth across Florida,” said Maureen Natkin, Ability Housing’s new Development & Engagement Director. “Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to work with organizations at the forefront of change for their respective sectors. I’m eager to re-engage with my peers and collaborators in the nonprofit affordable housing community, in service to the thousands of Floridians who call Ability Housing’s properties home.”
