HCA Florida Orange Park Breaks Ground on Graduate Medical Education Simulation Center

New $3 million center will help train 150+ residents a year in GME program

(Jacksonville, Fl.) – November 14, 2023 Today, HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital broke ground on a simulation center for the graduate medical education (GME) program.

The new simulation lab will serve as an integral part of the educational experience. The $3 million, 15,000 square foot facility will include offices, conference spaces, classrooms, lounge areas and an auditorium, as well as multiple clinical settings to simulate the latest techniques in the practice of medicine.

In the HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital GME program, residents and fellows are mentored by a dynamic network of physicians who are focused on teaching them to provide the exceptional, compassionate care patients deserve. “We train more than 150 residents each year in our GME program and our goal is to continue to grow,” said Hope Greig, Administrative Director of Graduate Medical Education. “Our program is led by an accomplished faculty and set under rigorous standards. We provide extensive training for the next generation of physician leaders right here at HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital.”

Over the past 49 years, HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital has grown from a small-town community hospital to a large teaching hospital, offering high-acuity specialized services. The $3 million GME simulation lab is the most recent project in HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital’s commitment to add services and facilities to meet community growth and improve patient care.

Over the past couple years, the hospital has;

  • invested more than $220 million to expand capacity and elevate its services to meet the growing needs of its community
  • completed the five-story, 96-bed East Tower expansion that houses state-of-the-art rooms for medical and surgical patients.
  • opened an additional 20-bed Intensive Care Unit.
