Ability Housing Receives the Bill Soforenko Affordable Housing Award from Northeast Florida Builders Association (NEFBA)

Award celebrates nonprofit developer’s longstanding commitment to affordable housing solutions

Feb. 12, 2024 — Jacksonville, Fla. — Ability Housing is the 2024 recipient of the Bill Soforenko Affordable Housing Award from the Northeast Florida Builders Association (NEFBA). NEFBA presented the award during its annual celebration on January 25, 2024.

NEFBA is the region's lead trade organization for the building industry, dedicated to improving the quality of life for the citizens of Northeast Florida through necessary resources, representation and education. The late Bill Soforenko served as president in 1972, and was a strong advocate for affordable housing. This award is given in his honor to a NEFBA member that continues his efforts of sustaining affordable housing throughout the region. Jacksonville’s San Jose Estates, Arlington Hills and Oak Hill Manor were just a few of the neighborhoods that Soforenko served; throughout his career, he worked diligently to ensure high-quality housing was available to Jacksonville’s families at a price point they could afford.

"Ability Housing is honored to accept this award from NEFBA, an organization that has been working toward equity in housing affordability for decades,” said Shannon Nazworth, President and CEO of Ability Housing. “It takes all sectors to achieve community-wide goals. In the spirit of Bill Soforenko’s contributions to this cause, we appreciate this recognition from like-minded peers."

On January 25, 2024, NEFBA hosted its Installation of Officers and Board Members ceremony. This ticketed event at the Timuquana Country Club recognized the 2023 award nominees, as well as the new officers joining the board.

“When we see an organization within our community that exemplifies everything that Bill Soforenko stood for in his remarkable career, we want to take the time to honor that work,” said Meagan Perkins, Vice President of NEFBA. “Ability Housing does an outstanding job at sustaining Bill’s legacy by providing affordable housing throughout Northeast Florida.”
