FREE SUMMER THEATRE IS BACK AT THE FLORIDA THEATRE STARTING JUNE 25TH!

Theatreworks provides the best national touring children’s theatre to school-age children on the First Coast.  Founded in 1979, Theatreworks was an independent organization until it merged with the Florida Theatre in 2019.  Introducing children to the world of theatre by providing community programs for local school children has been an integral part of the Florida Theatre’s mission to provide memorable arts and entertainment experiences for all ages:

  • “Zack Morgan:  The Wonder Of It All”

Event Details:  “The Wonder Of It All.”  Science is fun, exciting, and all around us.  We all use it in our daily lives, often without even realizing it.  With his unique humor and trademark wordplay, Zak points out the wonder of the natural world and shows how he uses technology to bring his ideas to life on stage.  Children learn about pitch, frequency, magnetic fields, and electric amplification in this interactive, joyful celebration of science.  The audience will see electrons in action with Zak’s hilarious plasma ball and Van de Graaff generator demonstrations.  They will witness Zak change the frequency and amplitude of sound waves with his Theremin and musical saw.  As in all of Zak’s performances, children will be encouraged to be kind, curious, and confident in this fun and memorable introduction to the science of sound.

 

  • “Billy Jonas:  Who’s Gonna Make Our Music?”

Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the Florida Theatre

Event Details:  “Who's Gonna Make Our Music?”  Participation is the name of the game.  This concert includes sing-alongs, bang-alongs, and an improvised song with audience suggestions.  Instruments include voice, guitar, and recycled "re-percussion."  This show proves to each and every participant that they are indeed a musician.  Themes include ecological awareness, community connection, personal responsibility, and various curriculum-related songs.

 

  • “Alice Rocks Wonderland”

Tuesday, July 9th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the Florida Theatre

Event Details:  Venture down the rabbit hole in this exciting rock musical adaptation of Lewis Carroll's masterpiece emphasizing the joy of reading.  Rock along with lively characters from the book including Alice, The White Rabbit, The Caterpillar, The Cheshire Cat, The Mad Hatter, & The Prince Of Hearts.
