MEDIA ADVISORY Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens Celebrates Go Public Gardens Week

American Public Gardens Association’s Annual Celebration Takes Place May 10 - 19

WHAT:

The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens celebrates Go Public Gardens Week this week in partnership with the American Public Gardens Association. From photo scavenger hunts to a LPGA golf demonstration, there is something for everyone to explore in the gardens this week. This week also marks the final chance to see the dynamic exhibition Sporting Fashion: Outdoor Girls 1800 - 1960.

Friday evening, grab dinner in the Cummer Café and get in the swing of things with members from the local LPGA USGA Girls Golf program, the go-to specialists for junior golf for girls ages 6-17. Members will demonstrate golf fundamentals like stance and swing, all while showcasing unique golf apparel from across several decades. This experience is free with museum admission.

Visitors to the museum can also join the American Public Gardens Association’s Public Garden Photo Scavenger Hunt. Each day from May 10–19, there is a different scavenger hunt theme of something to “go find” at the museum. Museum guests are encouraged to post their photos on their social channels on the day that matches the theme and tag #GoPublicGardensDays and #GoPublicGardens, as well as #cummermuseum. For a full list of scavenger hunt themes, go here.

The Cummer Gardens consist of the English Garden, Italian Garden and Olmsted Garden. The Cummer family’s gardens were shaped by some of the leading masters of twentieth-century landscape design and architecture, including Ellen Biddle Shipman, Ossian Cole Simonds, Thomas Meehan and Sons and the Olmsted Brothers’ firm. The gardens were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
