MEDIA ADVISORY: May is Final Month of the PNC Community Sponsored School Challenge

PNC has challenged the community to match their donation to support San Jose Elementary with Student Success Coaches next school year

WHAT:

The PNC Community Sponsored School Challenge allows Northeast Florida residents to deepen their impact and help local students reach their educational goals, while providing City Year Jacksonville’s Student Success Coaches, young adults ages 18-15, with valuable leadership skills and professional development.

City Year Jacksonville announced the opportunity in September of 2023. Individual donations of $500 or more made before May 31, 2024 will count towards PNC’s fundraising goal of $100,000 to support City Year’s work at San Jose Elementary. Those who donate to the campaign will be added to the roster as team sponsors and will have access to special engagement opportunities with San Jose Elementary School and the Student Success Coaches serving there.

City Year Jacksonville celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, and its legacy of impactful mentorship to the students of Duval County Public Schools. Founded in 2014, the organization works in partnership with Duval County Public Schools to provide young people the opportunity to reach their full potential as students. Throughout the school year, City Year Jacksonville places Student Success Coaches, young leaders who have committed to a dedicated year of civil service through AmeriCorps, in local schools to provide mentorship and daily support to students in their academic and soft skill development, while boosting culture for the entire school.

The organization is also currently recruiting Student Success Coaches for the 2024-2025 school year.

WHO:
Allishia Bauman, Executive Director and Senior Vice President, City Year Jacksonville is available to speak about the importance of mentoring when it comes to academic and character development for children and the work City Year is doing in local schools to provide this service, and how young adults can join the Student Success Coach team.

WHEN:

Throughout the month of May
