Press Release: Jacksonville Symphony Honors Retiring and Long-standing Musicians

Jacksonville, Fla. (June 14, 2024) – During the season finale weekend, the Jacksonville Symphony honored musicians Carol Whitman, violin, and Cynthia Kempf, viola, for their dedication and artistry. Whitman celebrated her retirement after 42 years, while Kempf marked 25 years as a violinist with the association.
At the start of the “Symphonie Fantastique” finale concert, Music Director and Conductor Courtney Lewis recognized both musicians. Whitman received a custom framed orchestra photo and concert program page, commemorating her final performance. Lewis praised Whitman's 42 years of service, highlighting her dedication, and presenting her with a bouquet of roses.
Kempf was the sole recipient of 25 years of service and was presented with an engraved silver bowl. All musicians who reach 25 years of service with the Jacksonville Symphony are recognized by name in each program book and receive a special silver anniversary bowl with their name and years of service engraved on the front.
"It is our honor to recognize our incredible 25 years of service musicians. Their dedication to the Jacksonville Symphony is an inspiration to all, and we are excited they will continue to be a part of our organization for many years to come" said Blake Schlabach, Vice President and General Manager of the Jacksonville Symphony.
