JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (July 2, 2024) — Smith Hulsey & Busey is pleased to announce that the firm’s managing partner M. Richard Lewis, Jr. has been named one of Florida Trend Magazine’s 2024 Legal Elite Notable Managing Partners.
Lewis became managing partner of Smith Hulsey & Busey in 2016 and has led the firm through market changes, evolving regulations, remote work, and COVID-19, all while ensuring that Smith Hulsey remains a viable independent law firm — and finding time to maintain his own practice.

A member of the firm’s Board of Directors and chairman of the firm’s Business Department, Lewis focuses his practice principally on mergers and acquisitions, healthcare, general corporate matters and financings.

Outside of the office, Lewis engages in civic work to benefit the Jacksonville community. He has been involved with the Children's Home Society of Florida, a human services organization focusing on child and family well-being, for more than 20 years, serving as past president and board member. He has been a Rotary Club of Jacksonville member for more than 25 years and has spent more than 20 years completing or overseeing pro bono work for the Jacksonville Area Legal Aid (JALA), a nonprofit that delivers economic, social and housing justice to low-income, at-risk Jacksonville residents.
